Day #14 of My Instagram Daily Twinchie Challenge and Etsy Trends

This is Day#14 of my Instagram #DailyTwinchieChallenge.
I remember in the early days of ETSY, trends were more fun, Alice in Wonderland was a major trend in artist and fashion imagery, The Etsy Blog and the New York Times even documented a story on this fashion/art trend a.k.a "Gothic Lolita". It was fun to see how ETSY sellers incorporated this form of imagery in their work.

But now it seems the trend is individualized to a single theme or image-byte, like OWLS to the point owls are being hammered out by mass-market giftware companies, thus losing the whole cultural phenomenon and fun behind the imagery and reducing it down to one image, a bird, or animal or thing.

The red-capped mushroom man is somewhat of a trend on ETSY, but it's not to the point of adnauseum and how artists and Etsy sellers interpret this character is delightful, even vintage sellers selling early children's book art showcasing the red-capped guy.  so I created a Twinchie-a 2"x2" work of art around this"schroom" character. There's a mystery how this character arrived in early illustration and why people love him, this adds to the fun in my creating him.
.
I started this self-challenge to create a Twinchie a day to help discipline myself to creating on a consistent basis. This small self-challenge, born out of reading about artist Crystal Moody's 365 day challenge on TheAbundantArtist blog was my inspiration. All artists/illustrators are welcomed to join in on this challenge for the Month of March even if you can't create one every day. All you have to do is 1. Create a 2"x2" work of art 2. Upload it on Instagram 3. Tag it: #DailyTwinchieChallenge. If you'd like to follow me, my page on instagram is: https://instagram.com/smirkinggoddess/
See you over there!
