Day #11 of my Instagram #DailyTwinchieChallenge

I've long admired artists who can draw straight to the white page with a pen, I can't, I always have to pencil in first, I fear such mistakes will happen and not be able to be easily rectified. I plan on a self-challenge in the future on this. One thing I do know, the more I draw the better my hand-eye coordination gets; however, I go in spurts filling up pages of sketchbooks for a couple of weeks, then stopping and not picking up for another month or two or so and one can get rusty quick.

I've really like the work of artist Andrea Joseph who draws solely in ink, usually with a regular ballpoint pen. I even own one of her printed booklets purchased out of her Etsy shop: AndreaJoseph

My hope is consistency will bring more confidence so picking up a pen–sans the use of an eraser to immediately correct something–won't seem so overwhelming, even when image is small. This snowman drawn in ballpoint pen after lightly penciling in.

I started the #DailyTwinchieChallenge on Instagram after reading Crystal Moody's interview on TheAbundantArtist blog. She challenged herself to be creatively consistent on a daily basis for 365 days. I'm starting with just this challenge for the Month of March, it's hard for me an adult with "a touch of ADD" as a Dr. once put it, to be creatively organized and consistent. If you read my posts, though I'm only 11 days into the challenge, I'm finding I'm inclined to be more sequential in my thought process and thus more consistent. If you're an artist or illustrator please join me on Instagram, all you have to do is create a 2"x2" work of art and post using the tag #DailyTwinchieChallenge if you have a facebook page, or do Twitter post there too and invite creative colleagues to join in!
