My husband purchased tickets to SummerWind's first annual Jazz Festival. SummerWind is a beautiful Outdoor Performing Arts Center tucked away in the beautiful woods of Windsor, Connecticut. We live only 15 minutes away from this exciting outdoor musical venue. The headliner were the YellowJackets a jazz quartet that's been together for over 33 years. CT grown Marion Meadows was also a headliner and I even purchased his CD and he autographed it for us! We came late, whereupon a woman seated at our table glared at us but with a twinkle in her eye, pointed to her watch and said: "Where have you been?".
We couldn't make the concert until later in the evening, although it started around 2pm. I was worried the place would be jam packed with mosquitoes, but not so. It was hot, but Ben and Jerry's was on hand as well as a bar with chilled wine and beer. The good news is you're allowed to bring your own food and bottled water-we brought a six-pack of the latter. We had seats under the tent, but there were many lounging in the shade on the grass slope. The restrooms were Port-O-Lets–not my favorite option–but they were clean and didn't reek.
Chillin' with a glass of wine, and cup of B&J's Coffee to the smooth sound of jazz soaring out from the stage was well, almost a spiritual experience. We plan to go again and in the meantime, we highly recommend this venue to all music lovers seeking some summer fun in beautiful surroundings. And for some, it's an opportunity to dance until the music stops.
